Qatar U-19 Handball Team Crowned Asian Champions

Amman, August 31 – Qatar's U-19 handball team won the Asian Championship title in Jordan on Monday, defeating Bahrain 28-24 in a commanding final performance.

Qatar took a 16-10 lead into the break and carried that momentum through the second half to secure the continental crown.

Unbeaten Run Through the Tournament

The Qatari side advanced to the final after edging South Korea 32-28 in the semifinals, while Bahrain reached the final by beating Iran 26-23.

Qatar went through the entire tournament without a single defeat, finishing Group B with a perfect eight points following wins over Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, and Syria. The team then thrashed hosts Jordan 33-13 in the quarterfinals before overcoming South Korea in the semifinals to book their place in the final.

Qualification Secured for 2027 World Championship

The title also earned Qatar a spot at the 2027 IHF Men's Youth World Championship, marking the seventh time in the country's history that it has qualified for the tournament.

Federation Officials Praise Team's Achievement

President of the Qatar Handball Association Ahmed Al Shaabi expressed his pride in the national U-19 team's triumph at the 11th Asian Championship, noting that the achievement reflects the continued growth of Qatari handball and the results of sustained efforts by clubs and national teams alike.

Al Shaabi commended the players for their outstanding performances throughout the competition, which they completed with a flawless, undefeated record. He also praised the technical and administrative staff, along with the National Teams Committee, adding that the title would serve as a major confidence boost as the team prepares for the upcoming World Championship in North Macedonia in 2027.

Secretary-General of the Association Mohammed Jaber Mohammed Jaber said that securing the Asian title with an unbeaten record adds another milestone to Qatar handball's extensive list of continental, regional, and international achievements.

He noted that the Qatari team showcased exceptional technical and physical performances, proving their dominance over the continent's top teams from the group stage all the way through to the final. He wished the team continued success as it prepares to represent Qatari handball at the next World Championship.
